What is the Digital ReeL Microfiche Scanning Solution?
Digital ReeL is a microfiche scanning service and a software application. Digital ReeL includes the scanning of your microfiche archive at one of BMI’s secure, HIPAA-compliant facilities. Digital ReeL is also a software application that has been designed to manage virtual microfiche. The Digital ReeL microfiche scanning service creates an exact, digital replica of your microfiche and the Digital ReeL software application enables users to retrieve the virtual microfiche from an interface that resembles a reader printer.
Digital ReeL is Different
- Less Expensive Option: Digital ReeL is suited well for infrequently accessed microfiche archives because the price is highly competitive – often 50% less expensive than alternative microfiche scanning services.
- Enhancement of Each Image: Digital ReeL includes adjustable grayscale. Grayscale offers a photographic quality to each image during the microfiche scanning process. Digital ReeL is unique because the grayscale is adjustable by the end user – users can adjust the brightness and contrast of each image until the quality is tuned and optimized.
- Microfiche Scanning Accuracy: The entire microfiche (not each individual image) is converted to digital during the microfiche scanning process. This eliminates any risk that an image will get lost (lost images can occur with standard microfiche scanning services). Because every single part of the microfiche is converted, you have an easy way to confirm that all your images have moved to a digital format during the microfiche scanning phase.
Digital ReeL is Available as Installable Software or SaaS
Digital ReeL is offered as a traditional software application that you install at your organization. The microfiche scanning service takes place at one of BMI’s secure Northern California facilities but the digital microfiche images and the Digital ReeL software is delivered to your organization. From there, your IT department installs and manages the solution, turning to BMI technical support when necessary.
Digital ReeL is also available as a hosted option. Commonly referred to as software-as-a-service (SaaS), the entire Digital ReeL solution can be managed at one of BMI’s data centers. BMI will perform not only the microfiche scanning, but also the hosting of your digital microfiche. Users will access records from the Digital ReeL web client over the Internet.
